Academic Support Centers
Academic assistance is available to all students who wish to improve their skills in areas such as reading, grammar, writing, study skills, computational skills, mathematics, or science. The Academic Support Center professionals offer assistance with any course taught at Finger Lakes Community College. All services are currently free of charge for all FLCC students. Academic Support Centers are located on Main Campus and at the Geneva and Wayne County Campus Centers. The Academic Support Centers are part of the Developmental Studies department
Peer Tutoring Program
This program offers peer tutoring on a one-to-one as well as group basis. Peer tutoring arrangements can be made by contacting the Academic Support Center.
Learning Disabilities
Learning disabilities (LD) is a term used to describe a variety of difficulties in acquiring, storing and/or retrieving information. These difficulties can often lead to problems with reading, writing or mathematics. Learning disability services are offered on a highly individualized basis and may include extended time and alternate locations for tests, peer tutors, note takers and texts on tape. Students may contact the LD coordinator in the Developmental Studies Department to arrange for services. Documentation is required.
Adult Basic Education - GED, ESL & More
The Adult Basic Education Program offers a variety of classes throughout the area to help prepare students for the GED exam. These classes are open to adults and out of school youth ages 17 and older. The classes prepare participants for the GED exam by reviewing writing, social studies, science, literature, math, and test taking skills. This program also provides information about the exam and assistance with special testing requests. The Adult Education Program also offers basic skills review, GED and ESL on TV, and English as a Second Language instruction. The Write Place
Finger Lakes Community College’s Writing Center offers students assistance on any writing project on a drop-in basis. The Write Place, located in room B-372 and at both the Geneva and Wayne Campus Centers is a comfortable environment for individualized or small-group work. Faculty members from the Humanities and Developmental Studies Departments, who staff the center, help students develop their self-confidence in personal expression and writing skills in a supportive and collegial setting. In the Write Place, students can seek help with organizing, drafting, documenting, and revising their essays or research papers.
