Welcome to the Write Place...
Whether you prefer to work independently or with a member of our faculty, the Write Place is a comfortable place to write, read, and think. We have an extensive collection of writers’ handbooks and reference materials, along with a fully networked computer system for conducting Internet searches, accessing library references, word processing, and laser printing. FLCC faculty from the Humanities and Developmental Studies departments fully staff the Write Place, with peer tutors available as well. There is no appointment necessary.
Our writing assistance services are available to any FLCC student who wishes to become a better writer, which is why we approach a workshop as an active dialogue between the student and instructor. We will not “proof-read” or “edit” a paper for you; instead, we will offer helpful feedback as we engage in a workshop together.
A typical session may last around 20 minutes (more or less), and is most effective when you come with the following:
The Assignment. Bring your professor’s written instructions for the assignment in order to guide your work according to the requirements.
A Working Draft. We can assist with any stage of the process, but allow yourself enough time to revise your work after your visit and before it is due.
A Question. What specific help do you feel you need? Coming with a purpose in mind can greatly help you focus and strengthen as a writer.
