Career Pathways in Tech Prep
Career Pathways in Tech Prep is a federally funded grant under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006, Title II. Through a variety of activities and initiatives students will be guided through a career pathway that will prepare them to succeed in post secondary education and/or be employed in high skill, high demand, high wage occupations.
Three Career Pathway Programs of Study (PDF) are being developed and integrated into the participating high schools and FLCC. The pathways include Natural Resources Systems, Information Support and Services, and Biotechnology. Through a variety of concurrent enrollment courses offered in each of the pathways, students are provided with a non-duplicative progression of courses in which they can earn college credit. Students receive challenging academic and career and technical skill attainment that will prepare them for current or emerging occupations in their pathway of study.
The Career Pathways in Tech Prep Consortia is comprised of 13 member school districts including Bloomfield, Canandaigua, Gorham-Middlesex, Manchester-Shortsville, Marion, Newark, North Rose Wolcott, Palmyra-Macedon, Penn Yan, Sodus, Wayne, Williamson and the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES. The consortium also includes members from local businesses, labor organizations, students, parents and FLCC faculty and staff.
