FLCC Foundation Scholarship Listing for Future Students

If you enter FLCC for the spring 2012 semester or if you are admitted to FLCC for the fall 2012 semester before May 19, you are eligible to apply for the FLCC Foundation scholarships listed here. Scholarship amounts

This list identifies the scholarships and dollar amounts that we anticipate will be available to incoming students for the 2012 - 2013 academic year. Be advised that the list does change over time. New awards are added and current benefactors occasionally make decisions to change the criteria and/or the dollar amounts they provide. Please note that there are also a few scholarships listed that fall outside of the Foundation’s process and they may have different timelines and contacts to assist you as you apply.

All students who are accepted to FLCC for the fall 2012 semester prior to the scholarship application deadline (May 19), as well as all students who enter for the spring 2012 semester, are directed to flcc.starsscholarshipsonline.com to access the online application. Applications will be accepted from April 1 through midnight on May 19, 2012.

  • Create a username and password.
  • After you record your personal information and respond to the questions, click on Recommended Scholarships.
  • A list of the awards for which you are most likely to be eligible will appear. Review any additional requirements for each one, certify that you meet the criteria, and click on Apply Now.
  • After all the selection committees identify their recipient(s), an e-mail notification will be sent to both recipients and non-recipients to the e-mail address identified on each student's application.

NOTE TO ALL APPLICANTS:

To complete the scholarship application, you must be admitted to FLCC. You will need your FLCC student ID number. It is a seven-digit number at the top of your acceptance letter

General Interest Scholarships

Alton B. Corbit Scholarship

Amount: $500

  • Entering, full-time freshman at time of application
  • Minimum B average
  • Outstanding potential and academic ability

FLCC Alumni Association Traditional-Age Student Excellence Scholarship

Amount: $2,000 (over two years)

  • Entering, traditional-age, full-time freshman at time of application
  • Evidence of being an exceptional student
  • Involvement in one or more community service or athletic activities the year prior to applying
  • Minimum GPA 3.4 for second year renewal

FLCC Alumni Association Regional Freshman Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 (over two years) (2)

  • Entering, full-time freshman at time of application
  • A resident of Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, or Yates counties
  • Potential for academic success
  • Involvement in one or more community service or athletic activities the year prior to applying
  • Demonstrate financial need

FLCC Board of Trustees Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Entering full-time freshman
  • Graduate of an Ontario County high school
  • Statement must refer to volunteer or community service activities, experience in student government and financial need
  • Minimum B/85% high school GPA

FLCC Honors Studies Freshman Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Entering full-time freshman who will enroll in ENG104 or HON100
  • Minimum B/85% high school GPA
  • Essay (300-400 words) explores an exciting idea or recent experience that has spurred your imagination or challenged your intellect

FLCC President's Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Incoming student matriculated in any degree program
  • Applicants are requested to discuss their financial need

Garlock Sealing Technologies Scholarships

Amounts vary

  • Full-time incoming student matriculated in any degree program
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have a parent, guardian or grandparent who is an employee at/retiree from Garlock
  • Demonstrate financial need

The Michaels Family Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $400

  • Entering, full-time freshman at time of application
  • Graduate of Geneva High School
  • Potential for academic success
  • Evidence of community involvement and work experience in the essay

New York Firefighters Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Given to dependents and immediate family members of New York State firefighters who have been disabled or killed in the line of duty
  • Essay must define specifics of your relationship as identified in the eligibility description

Kenneth A. Poormon '97 Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Given to dependents and immediate family members of New York State law enforcement officers disabled or killed in the line of duty
  • Essay must define specifics of your relationship as identified in the eligibility description

SUNY Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship

Amounts vary based on state funding allocation

  • Student must be enrolled in a degree program
  • U.S. citizen; New York State resident
  • GPA reflects high academic achievement
  • Essay must demonstrate how the student has overcome a disadvantage or impediment to pursuit of a higher education

Adult Student Scholarships

Those scholarships which mention the term "Adult Freshman" refer to the awards for applicants who have been away from the high school setting for several years. Although we consider all students who enter Finger Lakes Community College to be adults, these scholarships address the needs of students who have a high school diploma or the equivalent but who have not recently been a student in a high school or college/university setting.

Charlotte Cowie Memorial Scholarship for an Adult Freshman

Amount: $850

  • Entering, full-time freshman at time of application
  • Adult student, starting a new chapter in life by attending FLCC

FLCC Alumni Association Adult Student Excellence Scholarship

Amount: $2,000 (over two years)

  • Entering student who will attend full-time
  • Student must be 24 years old, married, support a dependent or be a veteran
  • Involvement in one or more community service activities in the year prior to applying
  • Demonstrate evidence of outstanding potential
  • Minimum GPA 3.4 for second year renewal

Finger Lakes Development Center for Business Scholarship for an Adult Freshman

Amount: $1,000 (over two years)

  • Entering, full-time freshman at time of application
  • Interested in pursuing a business career (specify in essay)
  • Minimum GPA 3.3 for second year renewal

Business Scholarship

Joanne Glover Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $400

  • Administrative Assistant major (studying to be an executive secretary)
  • Full-time female student
  • Minimum B average
  • Graduate of any Ontario County high school
  • Demonstrate financial need

Conservation Scholarships

Constellation Brands Viticultural Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Major: Viticulture and Wine Technology
  • Attending full-time
  • Excellent potential for academic success
  • Demonstrate financial need

New York State Conservation Officers Association Scholarship

Amount: $500

  • Entering, full-time freshman at time of application
  • New York State resident
  • Planning to pursue career as a conservation officer
  • Minimum B+ average

Amy Steverson Scholarship

Amount: $500

  • Entering, full-time freshman at time of application
  • Preference to residents of Seneca, Ontario, or Yates counties
  • Conservation major
  • Evidence of school and/or community service
  • Demonstrate financial need

Hotel and Resort Management Scholarship

AVI Fresh, Inc. Hospitality Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 (2)

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Major: Hotel and Resort Management or Culinary Arts
  • Part- or full-time student
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • The submitted essay must include the student's feelings regarding the benefits of a career in hospitality services

Human Services Scholarship

Bowen Family Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 over two years

  • Entering, full-time freshman with preference given to a graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School in Geneva, NY. A Geneva High School graduate will be selected if there are no eligible DeSales applicants.
  • Human Services major with career plans in nursing, education, social services etc.
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Minimum B average for second year renewal

Music & Music Recording Technology

Aldo F. and Anne J. Fioravanti Scholarship

Amount: $500

  • Entering full-time freshman enrolled in the music or music recording technology program
  • Preference to a student participating in the Finger Lakes Chorale
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Demonstrate financial need

Nursing Scholarships

Mary E. Moynihan Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Entering FLCC directly into the nursing program or entering from pre-nursing for the following fall semester
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Career intention must be to work in health care in the Finger Lakes region
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Thompson Health Nursing Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

  • Entering FLCC directly into the nursing program or entering from pre-nursing for the following fall semester
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Awards with a Process Outside of the Foundation's Process

Students interested in the following awards must use the specific processes outlined.

Canandaigua Fire Department Student Firefighters Award

Amounts vary: The Canandaigua Fire Department has been awarded Federal grant funds to assist volunteer firefighters with college education costs during the 2012 fall semester and the 2013 spring semester.

  • In exchange for 360 hours of station duty, up to three FLCC students will be awarded up to $2,500 per semester for tuition, fees and books. Award funds will be issued to the student's account at the FLCC bursar's office, and distributed upon successful completion of academic and station duty requirements.
  • For the 2012 fall semester, students will be required to meet the station duty requirement between May 19, 2012, and December 14, 2012. For the 2013 spring semester, students will be required to meet the station duty requirement between December 15, 2012, and May 17, 2013.
  • Station duty can be performed in 6-, 12- and 24-hour blocks and will be scheduled prior to the start of the performance period for each semester. Students will not be scheduled for more than 24 hours of station duty per week.
  • To be considered for the program, a student must be a volunteer firefighter in good standing with their home department, hold Firefighter I certification from the State of New York or nationally-recognized certification (ProBoard or IFSAC), and have completed one semester of college-level coursework with at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • To participate, volunteer firefighters from the Canandaigua Fire Department will be required to take a leave of absence during the performance period for each semester.
  • Students who desire to participate in the program must submit the following documents to Amy Pauley (room A-147 or foundation@flcc.edu) at FLCC: a letter of interest; an essay of 500 words or less that answers the question, "What do I have to offer the Canandaigua Fire Department in terms of skills, teamwork and dedication?"; copies of all fire and EMS certifications; names and contact information for five references and for the fire chief of their home department.
  • The deadlines for submission of everything listed: for fall 2012, is March 9, 2012; for spring 2013, is November 1, 2012.

FLCC Gemini Scholarship

Amount: One-half the cost of FLCC's full-time tuition for one year

These scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen. The deadline and application process differ from most other incoming freshman scholarships. Please carefully review the criteria and closing date for eligibility.

Note: all applications for this scholarship are due April 1

  • High school seniors residing in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, or Yates county
  • Minimum GPA: 80%
  • To be considered, applicants should submit: a complete application to enroll full-time at FLCC for the fall semester; an FLCC Gemini Scholarship application and scholarship essay (500 words or less).
  • Preference to students who have completed a minimum of 6 credit hours of coursework in the Gemini program.

The Raytec Group Excellence Scholarship

Amount: Based on tuition for the 2012 - 2013 academic year

  • Raytec Group in Fishers, N.Y. awards this scholarship to two Victor High School graduates through the Dollars for Scholars program at Victor Central High School.
  • The recipient must demonstrate academic excellence, school, and community involvement, and have financial need. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required for second year renewal.

Salvation Army Advisory Board Award *

Amounts vary

  • The applicant must be in his or her senior year of high school and ranked in the upper 50% of the class,possess a GED, or be currently enrolled as a student at FLCC.
  • Major: Nursing or Human Services
  • Demonstrate positive relationships with other students, contribute to the community, exhibit a good work ethic, and have financial need
  • Include high school/college transcript or GED documentation
  • Two recommendation letters required: one academic reference letter from an instructor and one character reference letter.
  • An essay, not to exceed 500 words, in which the student describes himself/herself and explains why he/she wishes to pursue a career in the chosen field of study. The essay should include a statement of need and community volunteer service.

Finger Lakes Community College students must submit their completed application to the FLCC Foundation Office no later than May 1. An FLCC non-traditional aged student may use a GED in place of a high school diploma, any transcripts from an academic institution he/she attended, and one character reference.

* A student receiving this award may reapply for a second year award by submitting a recommendation letter from a college advisor or an instructor in their major field and a transcript of their grades.
