Basic Skills Placement Testing

Whenever possible, students are encouraged to complete placement testing a week or more prior to registration-orientation. If necessary, admitted students may complete placement testing on the same day as registration-orientation.

Placement Testing

English & Reading Testing

FLCC requires all incoming, degree-seeking students (as well as any individuals seeking to enroll in Freshman English) to complete computer-based ACCUPLACER placement tests. The results of these tests, in combination with previous academic work, are used to assure proper placement in courses. Students will complete a reading comprehension test and a sentence skills test, each of which consists of no more than 22 multiple-choice questions. There is no time limit for completing the tests. View a sample exam.

Math Testing

FLCC requires all incoming, degree-seeking students to complete computer-based ACCUPLACER math placement tests.  The results of these tests, in combination with previous academic work, are used to assure proper placement in math courses.  Students will complete an algebraic skills test and some will also take a test of college level math skills.   Each test consists of multiple-choice questions and is administered without time limits.   View sample test questions.

Students are not permitted to bring calculators to the test.  A calculator is provided through the computer-based test.

Modern Language Placement

Students should sign up for modern language classes based on their experience in the given language. Effective Fall 2010, FLCC will no longer use a modern language placement exam. Please see the Modern Language Placement GuideAdobe Acrobat, PDF to determine the language class appropriate to your level of ability.

Music Testing

Students entering the Music or Music Recording degree programs are required to take a 35-question music theory test. View sample questions.Adobe Acrobat, PDF
