Testing Exemption Criteria
ENGLISH TESTING EXEMPTION CRITERIA
All students who are pursuing a degree or seeking to enroll in Freshman English (ENG 101) must take the English Placement tests unless they
- have previously received an associate or bachelor's degree* OR
- are a high school graduate and have completed a course equivalent to Finger Lakes Freshman English with a grade of C- or better* OR
- are a high school graduate and have received advanced placement credit for Freshman English with a minimum score of 3* OR
- are a high school graduate who scored 500 or higher on the SAT verbal exam or a 21 or higher on the ACT English/writing exam OR
- are a re-entry student who previously completed Freshman English and/or the Basic Skills tests at Finger Lakes.
* A transcript noting successful completion must be received by the Admissions Office prior to your registration date.
MATHEMATICS TESTING EXEMPTION CRITERIA
All students who are pursuing a degree must take the math placement test(s) unless they
- have completed a course equivalent to Finger Lakes’ College Algebra with a grade of C- or better* OR
- have received advanced placement credit for calculus with a minimum score of 3 or International Baccalaureate credit [high level] with a minimum score of 4.
