Counseling Services

Counselors serve as skilled listeners who help students clarify issues and learn new ways of coping that can help now and in the future.

Students often seek counseling to:

  • Cope more effectively with stress
  • Develop healthy relationships and improve communication skills
  • Increase self-confidence, assertiveness and self-esteem
  • Learn to deal with grief, trauma or loss
  • Discover how to overcome procrastination and/or other self defeating behaviors

FLCC offers short term counseling. Referrals to community mental health professionals are also provided.

Confidentiality

Counseling is strictly confidential. Information will not be disclosed without the student’s written permission except in unusual circumstances, such as court subpoena or imminent danger to the student or someone else. This, of course, is very rare.

Crisis

The Crisis Response Team is available for any student who indicates harm to self or others. To contact the team, please call Educational Planning and Career Services at (585)785-1268.

A Consumer’s Guide to Mental Health Services is available in the Meder Library on the Canandaigua campus.
