FLCC Honors Studies
We have a new name, a new vision, and a new house. Want a place at the table? Honors Studies offers a full-course intellectual and artistic meal at a reasonable price to those who are hungry, willing to bring a dish to pass, and able to help with the clean-up. We'll explore this and that, we'll taste all manner of goodies, we'll savor the possibilities, and kindly pass the salt and pepper.
The goal of Honors Studies at FLCC is to bring curious, highly motivated students together in small seminar classes to create an inspiring scholastic and social community. Honors Studies seminars are designed to engage students intellectually and artistically. If you are eager for such an opportunity, you might consider Honors Studies at FLCC. Courses are open to both full- and part-time students.
Honors seminars are team-taught by faculty from different fields and are topic-oriented based on the interest and expertise of the team. Recent topics have included "Science and Religion in Modern Life," "Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious in American Literature and Art," "The Human Drive for Community," "Popular Culture," "Internet, Culture, and Identity," "Mythology and Music," and "The Graphic Novel."
Each spring semester we run a three-credit honors retreat called "The Hearth Project." This seminar offers students the opportunity to explore philosophy, literature and the arts immersed in the natural setting of FLCC's Mueller Field Station on Honeoye Lake. This weekend residential retreat encourages reflection, creation and sharing.
