Gemini Concurrent Enrollment Program

FLCC and area high schools partner to provide eligible high school students with the opportunity to receive college credit at an affordable cost. Qualified high school teachers are approved by FLCC to deliver the college course in their school.

Gemini provides students with more course options, alleviates the high stakes testing associated with AP and IB courses, and provides the academic edge needed for acceptance into highly selective colleges.

Students in the Gemini Program are part-time FLCC students with access to SUNY online library resources. Part-time students can have a maximum of 11 credit hours per semester. Upon high school graduation, students may choose to attend FLCC or transfer their credits to another institution by requesting an official college transcript.

The Gemini Program is accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP). NACEP is a national organization with an established set of programmatic standards indicative of quality concurrent enrollment programs. FLCC is included in a charter group of four institutions to be the first accredited by NACEP.

Eligibility Requirements

Juniors and seniors in high school, some sophomores*
Minimum “B” average or 80% GPA
Successful completion of English 11 Regents exam for ENG 101
Successful completion of Math B course for math courses
Meet FLCC prerequisites stated in the college catalog
Enrollment exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis

*Students in 10th grade with a minimum 80% GPA may enroll in Computer Science courses (CSC). Any 11th and 12th grade student may enroll in GST 116. No additional eligibility requirements apply.

Attending FLCC

If you are planning to attend FLCC upon high school graduation, you do not need to request a transcript. Credits earned through the Gemini Program will be applied directly to your degree. Please contact the Admissions Office at 585-394-3500 Ext. 7279.

FLCC Scholarships

Gemini Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 (up to 4)
Note: all applications for this scholarship are due April 1

High school seniors residing in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, or Yates county
Minimum GPA: 80%
Submitted an application to enroll full-time at FLCC for the fall semester
Preference to students who have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of coursework in the Gemini Program

The Finger Lakes Top 10% Scholarship
These scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman. The deadline and application process differ from all other incoming freshman scholarships offered. Please review the criteria and closing date for eligibility carefully.
Amount: One-half of the cost of full-time FLCC tuition for up to two years.

Freshman applicants who are not dependents of full-time FLCC employees and who have applied for admission and intending to enroll at FLCC as full-time students for the fall semester directly after graduating from high school
Must have a rank within the top 10% of their graduating class and maintained an overall high school average of 90% or better
Must submit a copy of SAT or ACT scores
Completed FLCC Application for Admission and FLCC Top 10% Scholarship Application forms must be submitted by April 1

Transferring Credits

We have an exceptional record of transferability to other colleges and universities, especially within the SUNY system. However, because there is no guarantee, it is wise to contact the colleges you are applying to and notify them of your FLCC credits.
We also provide an official FLCC transcript, which can be acquired for $5 at the Registrar’s office by calling (585) 394-3500 ext. 7287 or visit us online at www.flcc.edu/offices/registrar/transcripts.cfm

Disclaimer:
It is the discretion of the receiving institution to determine whether they will accept transfer credits from another college or university and how those credits will be applied. It is strongly recommended that the students check with the college or university of their choice for acceptance of FLCC transfer credit before registering for an FLCC course. When transferring your credits, be prepared to present your course syllabus and portfolio to college officials who might need more detailed course information before accepting the credit.

Registration

Registration materials will be distributed in the high school classrooms at the start of each semester. An FLCC representative will visit your school district for Fall and Spring registrations. Contact your high school counselor for exact dates and times.

Fall 2007 Registration Dates: Tuesday, September 11 through Friday, September 28th.
Spring 2008 Registration Dates: Tuesday, February 5 through Friday, February 29th.

All registrations must be postmarked by the deadline. Students cannot register after the deadline. All late registrations will be returned.

Difference between Concurrent Enrollment (Gemini) and Advanced Placement (AP)

Gemini (Concurrent Enrollment): College courses taught in the high school for which college and high school credits are awarded for the same course. Credit is transcripted on an official college transcript.

Actual college credit is earned and transcripted at the end of each semester
Success is based on a variety of assessments throughout the semester, not solely upon one test
FLCC courses follows college syllabus and textbooks

AP (Advanced Placement): College-level exams for which students may receive credit upon matriculation to college, depending upon the test scores.
